Through its fundamental missions as a Regional Nature Park, amplified by its application for Unesco Global Geopark status, the Normandy-Maine Park and Geopark's mission is to implement, at local level, the sustainable development goals adopted by the member countries of the United Nations.
In September 2015, heads of state and government, senior United Nations officials and representatives of civil society, met as part of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals form a universal and ambitious programme for sustainable development, a programme "of the people, by the people and for the people", devised with the active participation of UNESCO.
What are the sustainable development goals?
They are a global call to action for sustainable development by 2030, taking into account all the issues at stake: climate, biodiversity, energy, water, but also poverty, gender equality, economic prosperity, peace, agriculture, education, etc.
There are 17 SDGs, all intrinsically linked:
The challenges up to 2030
The ambitious, cross-cutting nature of the sustainable development goals raises a number of issues for the coming years:
- Ensuring a realistic assessment of the current situation, then implementing rigorous monitoring of the progress made and identifying possible areas for improvement.
- Creating a dynamic for the appropriation of sustainable development objectives by local and regional authorities, civil society, the private sector and citizens.
- Encourage a context of cooperation: disseminate good practice and build a framework for cooperation between players to carry out joint actions.
